one last romantic kiss before midnight...

.... :) .....

beautiful laugh...

While I was capturing that quiet reflection by the groom prior to the ceremony, Lajuanna captured this amazing smile/laugh as a result of the bride receiving a special note from the groom....written on a Church Fact Sheet. Those moments are priceless!

quiet reflection...

a word about our cinematography...

I just completed reviewing a final edit of the first wedding we recorded on video. I've taken heat from our clients who trusted us with their videography in 2008, for taking so long to deliver. Conversely, my talented video team has taken a lot of heat from Lajuanna and myself, because we refused to accept anything but the absolute best effort possible.

We ask a LOT from our team. We asked them to produce our vision. We basically asked them to provide our photojournalistic style, but on video. This is a monumental task with video. It's easy to capture "planned", "directed", and "choreographed" moments on film. It's a completely different matter to capture the day with the same photojournalistic style we strive for with our still cameras. Like our photography, I wanted the videography to capture real, unmanufactured moments. Emotion and motion. Real moments. No second takes. It's extremely challenging, but Matt and Chad stepped up to bat.

As I watched Amanda and Ben's music video, I was struck how all the scenes were real, organic moments captured during their wedding day. It's exciting. What I've asked our team to do, is extremely challenging.

Will our style appeal to everyone? Of course not, just as our photographic style doesn't appeal to everyone. But I do believe that people will quickly see that what we do IS from our hearts and desires for the couple. I will say that the wedding day is our PRIMARY focus. We are not focusing on a great music video. We don't pre-plan for a specific song. We don't storyboard the day. As in our still photography, our desire is to "not make the news", but to "report the news." We want to provide you with the real story of your wedding day. It's that simple. We will certainly strive to constantly improve, and we will always look at how we can improve technically...but our main focus will always be how we can best capture your day in a way that is interesting, fun, and true to the day.

I really just wanted to say how psyched I am that it's finally coming together. Chad has put HOURS and HOURS in of listening to Lajuanna and My critiques, requests, and desires.

In the following weeks, you will see more of the browers cinematography style. We'll also be traveling to California later this year, to help celebrate and record Chad's wedding.

Well, I have to get a few hours sleep, but I was just excited after watching the video. Hopefully, this made sense, since I'm just a little sleepy right now.
later,
michael

pandora.com

Have you checked out pandora.com? It's pretty freakin' cool. Studio B! provided background music for a corporate event the other evening (unplanned, but we happen to have our sound equipment), and the playlist came from Pandora.com off of Rich's iPhone. It sounded great!
Check it out.

Pocketwizard Flex and Mini

I had a chance to test out the new Pocketwizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5.  Unfortunately, I didn't have a model, but it was still interesting.  My initial findings?  In form, it's WAY ahead of the RadioPopper system.  You can update firmware and settings from your computer.  The formfactor on your camera is small and unobtrusive. It's all self-contained and batteries are easy to change.  The RadioPopper system was a pain from the start.

Having radio controlled TTL-II with such an easy system is a wedding photographers DREAM!  It wasn't all roses, though.  I did have some mis-fires, which I totally didn't expect.  In reading the manual (yes, that works sometimes), I discovered that I had "tested" the set in the most demanding environment possible...around a HUGE piece of metal (and concrete).  Also, to extend the range with the 580EXII, you need to separate the TT5 from the flash (easy enough)

Anyway, I'm very happy with the new radio control.  Even with the mis-fires, they are amazing.  No attaching little pieces of anything to your flash or routing crazy little optical tubes around.  Just simply slide the MiniTT1 (or FlexTT5) on the camera....slide the flash on the TT5 and start shooting.  Sweet.

interesting....

Maggie and Steve got a little lucky in that they had Studio B! at their wedding. Because the ceremony and Studio B! were happening at the same location...and because it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to get everywhere I wanted to be during the ceremony, I asked Meghan and Kevin to grab the studio B! cameras and cover some interesting vantage points. Three of us caught Maggie's high five. Fun. Interestingly, I was the only one in the wrong place to see it, these were taken by Lajuanna, Kevin and Meghan. How cool.

....and then there's the super fun, one-and-only, night sky Studio B! of Maggie and the entire Browers Crew (Jeff, left above maggie, was a guest cinematographer from Switzerfilm). I'm the calm, sophisticated looking gentleman at the top of the heap. :)
